Mock Exam - Task 3

Looking for a new popular music magazine?...then look no futher! 'Pop Icon' is the perfect magazine for you! Not only does my magazine include all the aspects you are searching for such as an engaging title, it also supplies the features a proffesional music magazine needs which will send copies flying off the shelves!

Engagaing Title

First of all I would like to discuss my ideas for the magazine title. I have chosen to go with 'Pop Icon' which I think cleverly portrays what my magazine is all about. Of course the word 'Pop' demonstrates that this magazine is about music as it expresses a particular genre. Anyone would be able to tell this is a pop magazine just from the title! The word 'icon' also describes the magazine's purpose to include music inspirations who my target audience look up to which gives a positive message of the music industry. I believe this is important as the music industry is normally displayed negatively and inappropriate to young audiences. I also think my title is catchy and simple which I hope you can agree with.

House Style

I will also include an iconic pop artist on each cover to carry out a particular theme which will make my magazine recognisable. For each release, I will use the same colour scheme (pink and blue) and the same style font. I reckon using the same style for each magazine will attract my target audience and make it easier for them to look for my magazine.

Regular Features

Throughout my magazine I will include certain features such as competitions (to concerts/ to meet artists), album/single releases and reviews, tour reviews, top 10 lists, posters, fan reviews, upcoming artists and ‘Scrapbooks’. For my ‘Scrapbook’ feature I will include many photos of a particular event (such as a festival or concert). This will please my readers as it will supply them with many exclusive pictures if they missed it! How will this specific feature be different to the other magazines I hear you ask! Well, I believe this is a unique feature that hasn’t been used before so will give us an advantage to beat our most respective competitor ‘Top Of The Pops’. Fan reviews is also another feature which I believe will help the reader interact more with the magazine by giving their own opinions towards today’s latest music.

Target Audience

I have decided my target audience will be female pop fans around 14-22. I believe this age range will appeal to my magazine as not only will they connect with the pop artists on the front cover and look up to them, they will also look forward to the exclusive interviews and competitions available to for the older audience (eg. Festivals, concerts ect). Teenagers and younger adults also use the majority of their time on the internet so by having my own website, twitter and facebook for my magazine is absolutely vital! I also believe that £2.49 is a suitable price range for my audience as it is affordable as some of my readers might even have a job.
